NGA Metadata Management System (MCAMS) UX Redesign
Introduction
The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) partnered with Omni Federal to design, develop, integrate, deploy, sustain, and operate a new Metadata Management System, known as MCAMS. The goal of this case study is to highlight how I contributed to the UX design of MCAMS, with a particular focus on designing the dashboard, wireframes, and prototypes.

Problem Statement
The existing NGA Metadata Management System (MCAMS) faced several usability challenges:
Complexity: Users found the system's interface complex and challenging to navigate, resulting in decreased efficiency.
Inefficiency: Due to outdated design and limited customization, users encountered inefficiencies in their daily tasks.
Quality Monitoring: Ensuring quality without compromising speed of delivery was a concern, necessitating a streamlined UX design process.
1. Dashboard Redesign
I began the project by focusing on the dashboard, the primary point of interaction for users. Key improvements included:
User-Centered Customization: The new dashboard allowed users to personalize their layout, placing frequently used functions at their fingertips.
Clearer Data Visualization: Redesigned widgets and charts improved data representation, enhancing user understanding.
2. Wireframe Development
To visualize the proposed changes, I created detailed wireframes. This involved:
User-Centered Approach: Conducting user interviews to incorporate feedback into wireframe design, ensuring alignment with user needs.
Information Hierarchy: Carefully structuring the layout to prioritize critical functions and improve usability.
3. Interactive Prototyping
I developed interactive prototypes to provide stakeholders with a tangible experience of the proposed changes. This phase included:
Usability Testing: Conducting usability tests to gather insights and refine the design based on user feedback.
Seamless Interactions: Ensuring smooth transitions and interactions for a more immersive user experience.
Results
The UX redesign of MCAMS, encompassing the dashboard, wireframes, and prototypes, led to substantial improvements:
Enhanced User Satisfaction: User feedback indicated a significant increase in satisfaction and ease of use.
Streamlined Workflows: The new customization options and improved data visualization streamlined daily tasks.
Efficient Navigation: Users found it easier to access essential functions, leading to improved efficiency.

Conclusion
The collaboration between Omni Federal and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) has resulted in a successful UX redesign of the Metadata Management System (MCAMS). This project showcases how user-centered design and innovative UX solutions can transform complex software systems, ultimately supporting NGA's mission to deliver high-quality geospatial intelligence.
